PROUDFOOT CONCORDANCES AND CLASSICAL MALAY A concordance is a particular way of displaying the form of a text. It is 'any arrangement of the words in a text in which the occurrences of the words are alphabetized (or ordered according to some principle) and in which some of the environment of the word is presented along with each occurrence' (Smith 1969: xxi).
